Arson suspected in Whangārei's Thomas St next to fatal house fire
Police say they are treating a suspicious fire at a Whangārei property where a woman died as arson.
The woman's body was found inside a burning house on Thomas St, Raumanga, on Tuesday morning.
The Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) was called to the scene at 4:35am and found the house well ablaze.
A police spokesperson said in a statement that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, however they are treating it as suspicious.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out on the woman's body to determine the cause of death.
The house next door to where the fatal fire occurred has also been badly damaged.
Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area around Thomas Street, Raumanga, between 3am and 5am on Tuesday morning.
